Qkine, based in Cambridge, UK, manufactures high‑purity, animal‑free growth factors and cytokines. By combining proprietary production and protein engineering techniques, we tackle fundamental biological and scale‑up challenges across the stem cell, organoid, regenerative medicine, and cultured meat sectors. We are seeking an experienced Application Scientist to join our Cell Culture team. You will hold a BSc or equivalent experience in biological sciences or a related field and possess hands‑on experience in stem cell culture maintenance and differentiation. Previous experience in the biotechnology industry is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, communicate effectively, and take a flexible approach to their work. We are looking for proactive team players with a can‑do attitude.
Key responsibilities include generating high‑impact application data and content for catalogue products using in‑house platforms such as iPS cell lines and organoids. The role will also involve assessing new products and materials, ensuring alignment with Qkine’s scientific and quality standards, and supporting the Assay Development team in the development and execution of cell‑based assays when required. You will manage workloads to meet project milestones, collaborate closely with team members, and present data on a regular basis. A key aspect of the role involves providing scientific support to help resolve customer queries and troubleshoot issues related to the use of Qkine growth factors across diverse cell culture workflows. The post‑holder will also be required to participate in the Cell Culture team’s weekend rota.
Required Experience
- Proficiency in stem cell culture maintenance and differentiation.
- Skilled in aseptic cell culture & transfection techniques.
- Demonstrable troubleshooting ability.
- Experience of cell-based assay development would be advantageous.
- Molecular biology experience (PCR, bacterial transformation) is desirable.
- Experience following and writing SOPs.
- Knowledge of an ELN platform and accurate data collection and presentation.
- Experience working with a QMS such as ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 would be an advantage.
- Team-oriented approach.
- Excellent organization and record-keeping skills.
