Human fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2/bFGF) protein (145 aa) is our gold-standard and recommended FGF-2 / bFGF protein for induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and embryonic stem cell (ESC) maintenance, and iPSC and mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) proliferation and differentiation. The 145 aa version comprises the core structured region sufficient for full biological activity.

Qkine FGF-2 (145 aa) 14 day stability
- FGF-2 (145 aa) stored at stored at room temperature (EC50 0.35 ng/ml) didn’t lose bioactivity compared to -80 °C storage (EC50 0.38 ng/ml).
- No loss of activity was seen with FGF-2 (145 aa) stored at room temperature with multiple freeze thaws (EC50 0.18 ng/ml) compared to -80°C (control, EC50 0.23 ng/ml).
- SDS-PAGE showed no degradation of FGF-2 was visible after 14 days under these conditions.
FGF-2 (145 aa) remained stable and bioactive for 14 days at room temperature and with multiple freeze-thaws. Bioactivity was determined using a Promega serum response element luciferase reporter assay in transiently transfected HEK293T cells. Cells were treated in triplicate for 3 hours with a serial dilution of FGF-2 (Qk025). (A) Stored at room temperature (RT) or -80 °C (control). (B) Stored at room temperature with 4 freeze-thaw cycles (RT/FT) or -80°C (control). Firefly luciferase activity was measured and normalized. (C) 3 µg was resolved on a 15% w/v SDS-PAGE gel under non-reduced conditions and stained with Coomassie Brilliant Blue R250. Data from Qk025 lot #204706.
